Does sweating cause weight loss?

I'm trying to shed some kilos, and my gym trainer always emphasizes sweating during workouts. I'm curious, does sweating actually cause weight loss, or is it just a sign of a good workout?

I used to stand in the heat and do hard workouts just to sweat more, thinking I was losing weight, and I felt so defeated when the scale didn't move. It is so exhausting to go through that, but please know that sweat is just water loss, not fat loss.

If sweating caused real weight loss, I would have been thin as a stick just by sleeping in this humid room without the AC. Unfortunately, it is just water weight and you get it all back the moment you drink some water.

Sweating is just a response to heat, not a measure of calorie burn. For actual weight loss, a regular 45-minute brisk walk is much more effective than sitting in a sauna or wearing heavy clothes to sweat.

No, it doesn't cause fat loss. Sweating is just your body's cooling mechanism, so focus on a calorie deficit instead.

I always feel like I have had a great workout only when I sweat a lot, and if I don't, I feel like I wasted my time. Does anyone else get this anxiety that their workout isn't working if they aren't sweating?
