Does stretching help with weight loss?

For my weight loss journey, I'm incorporating exercise into my routine. My yoga instructor always emphasizes stretching. Does stretching actually help with weight loss, or is it more for flexibility?

To be realistic, stretching alone burns very few calories, so it won't directly cause weight loss. However, it improves flexibility and prevents workout injuries, which helps you stay consistent with your actual fat-burning cardio and strength routines.

Stretching is wonderful for keeping your muscles relaxed and improving blood circulation. Don't worry about using it purely for weight loss; think of it as a way to prepare your body for more active exercises and walking, which will naturally help with your health goals.

I used to panic because I thought I wasn't doing enough heavy workouts and was only stretching, thinking I would never lose weight. But I realized stretching helped ease my sore muscles so I could exercise consistently without pain. It is a normal and very helpful part of the journey.

I tried doing a lot of stretching routines online, but I haven't seen any change on the weighing scale. Has anyone else experienced this, or am I doing the wrong kind of stretches for burning fat?

At my age, stretching just helps me pick up things from the floor without my back making funny noises. It won't melt away your belly fat on its own, but at least it keeps us moving so we can attempt real workouts!

Beta, stretching makes the body light and flexible, which is very good. But to lose weight, you must also eat simple home-cooked food with less oil and go for regular morning walks in the fresh air.

I wish stretching burned fat because stretching in bed is about the only exercise I have energy for these days. Sadly, you need actual cardio and a proper diet to lose weight, though stretching does feel amazing after a tiring day.

I totally get it, trying to figure out the best routine for weight loss can feel so confusing. While stretching itself doesn't burn enough calories to drop weight, it is incredibly healing for your body and keeps you active, which is a great first step.
