Does sauna help with weight loss scientific evidence?

Everyone at my gym talks about using the sauna to aid in weight loss, saying it boosts metabolism. Is there any scientific evidence to back up the claim that sauna helps with weight loss? Or is it just a feel-good activity?

Let's be direct: science says no. Any immediate weight loss you see after a sauna session is 100% water depletion. You can't sweat out fat tissue, so don't substitute steam for actual exercise.

I was looking up medical papers on this. The scientific consensus is that sauna heat only causes acute fluid loss through sweating. There is zero evidence showing that it triggers fat oxidation or long-term metabolic changes for weight loss.

I agree with the others. Science proves it is just temporary water weight loss due to dehydration, not fat loss.

I am new to this and trying to understand how to lose weight safely. So does this mean the heart rate increase in a sauna doesn't count as burning calories like cardio does? If someone has scientific details, please share.

I also fell for the 'sauna burns fat' claims earlier. But when you look at actual studies, the weight drop is purely water and you gain it back immediately after drinking fluids. It is great for sore muscles though!

My daughter wanted to join a premium gym just for the sauna, believing it helps burn fat scientifically. I had to explain to her that it only makes you lose fluids, and proper nutrition is the only real scientific way to lose weight.
