Does metoprolol cause weight loss?

I'm on Metoprolol for my heart condition, and I've been trying to lose some weight. I was wondering if this medication could potentially cause weight loss.

Actually, metoprolol usually causes some weight gain or bloating rather than weight loss. If you are losing weight unexpectedly, it might be due to something else, so do let your doctor know.

I wish it caused weight loss, at least that would compensate for the crazy vivid dreams and sleep issues I get with it! But alas, no such luck, it mostly just makes me feel cozy and sluggish.

Losing weight suddenly while on heart medicine is not common, beta-blockers usually make the body feel a bit heavy. Drink warm ginger tea for digestion, but report any sudden weight drops to your clinic.

No, it doesn't cause weight loss. In fact, beta-blockers are known to slow down your heart rate and metabolism, which typically has the opposite effect.

I was on metoprolol for six months post my health scare and didn't experience any weight loss at all. If you are dropping weight, please talk to your physician as your dosage might need adjusting.

Physiologically, beta-blockers don't support weight loss because they lower your maximum heart rate. If you are experiencing weight loss, check if your daily caloric intake has dropped due to fatigue.
