Does medicare pay for weight loss programs?

My husband and I are both trying to get healthier and lose some weight. We were thinking of joining a weight loss program. We both have Medicare, so we were wondering if Medicare helps with the costs of such programs at all. Any info would be great.

They don't cover commercial weight loss programs, but they do pay for medical nutrition therapy if you have diabetes. I use these sessions to keep my sugar levels stable. Be very careful with generic diet advice though, as sudden diet changes can mess up your blood glucose levels.

I just went through this last month while trying to sign up for a medical weight management plan. The insurance denied the commercial part of the program but covered the basic doctor consultations. You will have to pay for the actual classes or diet kits yourself.

Since insurance won't pay for these fancy programs, why not try some simple daily habits? I lost weight by just cutting down tea sugar, drinking warm jeera water, and walking daily. It takes some time but it is absolutely free and very easy on the body.

I totally get it, trying to find a good structured program that fits your budget without insurance support is really hard. It feels like we are left to figure it all out on our own. Just take it one day at a time, you are doing great.

Listen, don't stress too much about these high-end programs not being covered. You don't need expensive plans to get fit anyway. Let's just start with basic home food and consistent evening walks, we can totally do this on our own!

I have been reading so much online and getting stressed about which program is safe and whether my policy will cover even a part of it. It seems they only cover sessions if your BMI is very high and it's done at a primary clinic. I hope you find a safe and affordable option soon.

They don't cover commercial weight loss plans, haan na. It is quite expensive to pay for those programs from our pocket. Better to just consult a local hospital dietician which is much cheaper and works well.

In my experience, my insurance didn't pay a single rupee for the weight loss program I joined last year. I had to bear the entire cost myself, but the medical checks associated with it were covered under my general health benefits. It is best to check with your provider directly.
