Does medicare pay for ozempic for weight loss?

Many people have told me that Ozempic can also help with weight loss. While I have diabetes, weight loss is also a big goal for me. Does my health insurance plan cover Ozempic if it's prescribed primarily for weight loss purposes?

Honestly, standard government medical insurance does not cover Ozempic if it is prescribed solely for weight loss. They consider it a cosmetic or lifestyle issue, which is a bit sad. I feel focusing on a high-fiber vegetarian diet with portion control is a much safer and cheaper way to go anyway.

I tried asking my doctor about this last month because I wanted to lose some weight. He told me straight away that my insurance wouldn't pay for it unless I also had a type 2 diabetes diagnosis. So I had to look at other fitness options instead.

No way, yaar. My dad checked this for himself and they flat out refuse to cover Ozempic for weight loss. It is super expensive to buy on your own, so better to hit the gym and cut down on those late-night college pizzas instead!

I also panicked when I saw the actual cost of this drug out of pocket because my insurance rejected the claim for weight loss. But don't worry, my doctor helped me find a great alternative diet plan and some standard affordable medications that worked just fine without breaking the bank.

Let's be realistic, standard plans clearly exclude weight loss medications from their coverage list. If you don't have diabetes, you will have to pay the full price yourself. Better to invest that money in a professional nutritionist and trainer who can design a plan around your busy work schedule.

Haha, if insurance started paying for everyone's weight loss injections, they would go bankrupt in a week! Sadly, they say no to Ozempic for slimming down. Looks like we have to stick to the good old remedy of closing our mouths in front of parathas!
