Does medicare cover semaglutide for weight loss?

I'm really trying to lose weight for my health, and I've read about Semaglutide being used for this. I'm wondering if health insurance plans usually cover Semaglutide when it's prescribed specifically for weight loss. It seems like a potential solution.

Let's be very clear, basic health schemes and medicare do not cover Semaglutide if it is solely prescribed for weight loss. They consider weight loss medications cosmetic or lifestyle drugs. It is only covered if you have severe type-2 diabetes and your doctor prescribes it as part of that therapy.

I tried getting my insurance to cover this last year, but they flatly denied it because my sugar levels were normal. If you are using it only for obesity management, prepare to pay out of your own pocket. My advice is to focus on a structured diet and workout plan while you discuss other pocket-friendly medical options with your doctor.

In our times, we didn't have these fancy injections, just pure hard work and daily walks. Usually, these modern weight loss drugs are not covered by standard senior policies unless there is a severe medical emergency. Don't worry too much about expensive medicines; clean home-cooked food can do wonders for your health.

From what I see daily, standard insurance and health schemes rarely cover brand-name weight loss injections because of the high cost and lifestyle classification. However, if you are diabetic, the coverage rules are different. Talk to your endocrinologist to see if there are standard covered alternatives that fit your health goals.
