Does medi-cal cover glp-1 for weight loss?

My doctor suggested GLP-1 medications for my weight loss journey. I'm wondering if Medi-Cal generally covers these types of drugs when they are prescribed for weight management. It would be helpful to know before I commit.

I always feel we should look at our diet first, like adding more high-fiber vegetarian options to help with satiety. Regarding GLP-1, Medi-Cal usually has very strict rules and often covers them only if you have type 2 diabetes. Definitely talk to your doctor to see if you qualify under their guidelines.

I know how exhausting and frustrating the weight loss journey can be, especially when you feel like nothing is working. Dealing with insurance approvals just adds to the stress. Just hang in there and don't lose hope, your doctor will help you figure out the best path.

In our time, we relied on warm water with lemon and light home-cooked meals to manage health. These modern GLP-1 medicines are very strong, so please consult a proper doctor to see if it is safe and if Medi-Cal covers it. Don't try to get them without a proper prescription.

Insurance can take time to sort out, but you can always start with small physical changes. If your doctor allows, aim for a brisk 40-minute walk every morning. It helps build a great foundation while you wait for Medi-Cal's decision on the GLP-1 approval.

My daughter went through a similar struggle trying to get her health plan to cover these injections. What worked for us was being persistent and having the doctor submit a very detailed medical history to the insurance. Just take it step by step and keep following up with them.

I got so worried reading about the shortage and cost of these GLP-1 drugs. Apparently, Medi-Cal might cover certain brands but not others, and the rules keep changing. It is best to have your doctor's office check your exact plan details directly so you don't worry unnecessarily.
