Does lexapro help with weight loss?

My friend mentioned that taking Lexapro helped her manage her weight better. I'm considering it for my anxiety, but I also wanted to know if it's true that Lexapro can assist with weight loss.

No, Lexapro is not a weight loss drug, and using it for that is a bad idea. In the first few weeks, you might lose some weight due to mild nausea or a temporary loss of appetite, but this passes quickly. If you want to lose weight, focus on your diet and exercise instead.

Let's be very clear: do not take Lexapro hoping to get slim. It is meant to treat clinical depression and anxiety, and it often does the exact opposite by making you gain a few kilos over time. Focus on physical exercise for weight loss.

I was just reading some medical blogs about this and found that while some people lose weight due to initial side effects like nausea, Lexapro is generally associated with long-term weight maintenance or mild gain. It definitely isn't a weight loss medication.

Managing high blood pressure has taught me that there are no shortcuts to weight management. Lexapro is for mental health and doesn't directly aid in weight loss; in fact, long-term use can sometimes lead to weight gain. Keep focus on a healthy salt-restricted diet and regular walks.

Haan yaar, starting mein thoda appetite kam ho jata hai toh log sochte hain weight loss ho raha hai. Par long term mein isse weight badh hi jata hai thoda, kam nahi hota na. Weight loss ke liye simple ghar ka khana aur walk hi best hai.

Absolutely not. Lexapro is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor prescribed for anxiety and depression, not a metabolic booster. If you are looking to lose weight, consult a certified clinical nutritionist, not a psychiatrist.

These modern psychiatric medications are very powerful and should not be trifled with for simple weight issues. To lose weight, one should rely on traditional methods like eating before sunset and drinking warm ginger water. Leave the clinical tablets for serious mental health needs.

I completely understand hoping for some weight loss when starting a new routine! But Lexapro actually made me feel super hungry after my anxiety settled down. It is better to focus on feeling emotionally healthy first, then worry about the scale.

As someone who has seen many people navigate mental health journeys, I can tell you that Lexapro's main job is to bring emotional balance. Any initial weight loss is usually temporary water weight or due to a mild loss of appetite. Please prioritize your mental healing over weight goals right now.

If Lexapro helped with weight loss, half of the gym trainers in Delhi would be out of business! It might make you too nauseous to eat for a week, but that is not real weight loss. Don't count on it to fit into your old jeans.

As a diabetic, I have to be extremely cautious about how medications impact my metabolic rate. Lexapro won't help you lose weight and can actually make blood sugar management slightly more complex due to appetite changes. Stick to a low-carb diet and regular exercise.

If you are taking Lexapro and want to manage your weight, the only healthy way is to combine it with regular physical activity. Try to get in a 45-minute brisk walk daily, assuming your doctor clears you for exercise. Relying on an SSRI for weight loss is not a viable strategy.
