Does levothyroxine cause hair loss in women?

My doctor just put me on Levothyroxine for my thyroid condition. I'm already worried about my hair, and someone mentioned this medicine might cause hair loss. Is hair loss a common side effect of Levothyroxine specifically for women?

My wife faced this hair fall issue after starting her thyroid pills. Instead of buying expensive designer shampoos, we budgeted for regular TSH tests every three months which cost under 300 rupees. Keeping the dose accurate is the cheapest and most effective way to stop the hair fall.

In women, estrogen and thyroid hormones are closely linked, so starting thyroid medication can trigger temporary hair shedding. This is generally a temporary adjustment phase. Focus on iron-rich foods like spinach and dates, and make sure your TSH levels are monitored.

Hey, I know it is incredibly stressful to see your hair shedding like this. My sister went through the exact same thing when she started her levothyroxine therapy. Just give it about three months for your hormone levels to steady, and the hair fall will stop on its own.

Shedding can happen during hormonal shifts, but you can combat this with solid lifestyle habits. Keep your protein intake high, exercise regularly to boost blood flow, and don't skip your medicine. Healthy lifestyle habits really help speed up recovery.

When my mother complained about hair loss, we took her to her endocrinologist at Max Hospital. The doctor clearly explained that the hair cycle is sensitive to thyroid hormone changes, and advised us not to stop the medication. Always check with your doctor before changing anything.

Managing diabetes and thyroid together has taught me that hormone replacement therapy takes time to settle. Changes in thyroid doses can affect hair follicles. Ensure you maintain a balanced, low-glycemic diet to keep your overall endocrine health stable.

I was just researching this because my mother is about to start her thyroid treatment and she is terrified of losing her hair. From what I have read on medical forums, it is the actual thyroid fluctuation that causes the hair fall, rather than the tablet itself. It seems to get better over time.
