Does ibs cause weight loss?

I have been dealing with IBS for a few years, and recently I've noticed I'm losing weight without trying. My diet hasn't changed much, and I'm quite concerned. Can IBS cause weight loss?

Between running to the bathroom all night and barely sleeping, I've definitely lost some weight, but it's not the fun gym kind of weight loss! IBS makes you scared of eating anything, which naturally drops your calories. It's exhausting but unfortunately quite common when flare-ups are bad.

I panicked so much when I lost 4 kgs in a month due to my bad stomach phases. I thought it was some incurable disease! But once my gastro doctor explained that my body was just not absorbing food well due to anxiety and fast bowel movements, I felt so relieved. It went back to normal soon.

I totally get it, seeing the numbers drop on the scale when you are already struggling with gut pain is so scary. IBS makes you fear food, so you end up eating very little, which leads to weight loss. Please be gentle with yourself and try to have small, safe meals.

Yes, IBS can cause some weight loss because our gut gets super sensitive to foods! 🍲 But don't worry, once you find your trigger foods and manage stress, your weight will stabilize nicely. Sending you lots of positive vibes! ✨

Well, my stomach has its own mind now because of IBS, and it decided to shed some kilos without my permission. When you are on a permanent diet of khichdi and curd, weight loss is bound to happen! It's tiring but as long as the doctor says there's no major inflammation, we just have to laugh and bear it.

Please do not ignore unexplained weight loss by just blaming it on IBS. I once ignored my weight loss and stomach pain for months, and it turned out to be a severe ulcer that required long treatment. Get a proper stool test and colonoscopy done to rule out anything serious.

Yes, weight loss happens mainly because we avoid eating to prevent stomach pain. Try drinking buttermilk daily, it helps soothe the stomach.
