Does gall bladder removal cause weight loss?

Scheduled for gallbladder removal surgery next month due to recurring stones. My aunt told me that many people actually lose weight after the operation. Is it common to experience weight loss after a cholecystectomy?

Please get this checked properly by your surgeon instead of guessing. I ignored my post-surgery digestive issues for months thinking it was just natural weight loss, and it turned into a huge weakness issue later. If you are losing weight rapidly, go see your doc immediately.

Weight loss after this surgery usually happens because you are eating very light, oil-free food during recovery. I had to monitor my BP and weight closely after my surgery too. Keep track of your vitals and consult your doctor to ensure your nutrition is on point.

A lot of folks lose weight initially because the body is adapting to digesting fats without a gallbladder. It's mostly because you're eating clean and in smaller portions post-op. Once you get back to your regular, clean diet and light workouts, your weight should stabilize.

Yes, initially you might lose some weight because of the soft, low-fat diet. Once your doctor gives you the green light, try adding short daily walks to build your core strength back. It really helped me regain my appetite and feel active again.

Everyone's body reacts differently to surgeries, so don't believe people who say weight loss is guaranteed. If you are shedding kilos without trying, it could be a malabsorption issue. Better to discuss this directly with your doctor rather than reading random stuff online.

Beta, many people actually lose a bit of weight in the first few weeks because of the restricted diet. Your digestive system is just resting and healing. Give it some time, eat small and frequent meals, and you will feel your normal strength returning soon.

I lost about 4 kgs right after my surgery because I was terrified of eating anything heavy! It’s totally normal to lose a bit of weight because your diet changes completely. Just focus on eating light, healthy stuff and don't stress about the scale right now.

Look, obviously you will lose weight if you stop eating oily paranthas and butter after surgery! Your body is on a strict low-fat diet right now. Once you start eating normal food again, your weight will come back to regular levels.

I had my gallbladder removed three years ago and went through the exact same thing. The weight loss is usually due to the liquid and bland diet in the first month. My tip is to slowly introduce healthy fats like almonds and olive oil so you don't lose too much muscle mass.

Do not worry, this is just a phase of healing for your body. The body is adjusting to a new way of processing food, which can lead to temporary weight changes. Keep your mind calm, eat fresh home-cooked meals, and let nature do its work.
