Does early pregnancy cause farting?

I'm just a few weeks pregnant and I've noticed I'm farting much more than usual, which is quite embarrassing! I'm not sure if this is normal. Does early pregnancy cause increased farting or gas?

Yes, hormonal changes slow down digestion, which causes a lot of gas. Since I manage diabetes, I found that eating small portions of complex carbs and avoiding sugary snacks really helped control the gas and bloating. Keep your meals simple and clean.

My doctor explained that the hormone progesterone relaxes all the smooth muscles in your body, including your digestive tract. This slows down your digestion process significantly, leading to a buildup of gas and increased flatulence. It is a very normal physiological response.

I know it can feel a bit embarrassing and comfortable to talk about, but please don't worry. I used to feel so anxious about every little symptom, but extreme gas is incredibly common. Your body is going through massive changes right now.

Oh absolutely, the gas is very real! My wife had crazy cravings for spicy street food early on, but then the flatulence afterward was next level. It's best to enjoy your food but maybe cut down on heavy, fried stuff for a while.

It is quite common, haan na. The body changes so much and digestion becomes very slow. Just drink warm water and walk a bit after eating, it helps release the trapped gas easily.

Increased flatulence is a well-documented symptom due to progesterone relaxing the gastrointestinal muscles. While it is completely normal, if you experience severe abdominal pain, it is always best to check with your obstetrician just to be safe.

I actually panicked and thought I had a stomach infection when the gas got so bad early on. But my doctor laughed gently and said it's just the pregnancy hormones at work. It is totally normal, so just relax and let your body do its thing.

Don't feel shy about this at all, almost every pregnant woman goes through it. To manage the gas, try to eat slowly and avoid talking while chewing to prevent swallowing air. Drinking warm ginger water also helps calm the stomach.

I totally get it, it can be so annoying to deal with constant gas when you are already feeling tired. Just know that you are not alone in this. Try wearing loose, comfortable clothes so your stomach isn't compressed.

During my first pregnancy, I was constantly bloated and passing gas. I started having light buttermilk with a pinch of hing and cumin powder after lunch, and it worked wonders for my digestion. Give it a try, it's very safe.
