Does duloxetine cause weight loss?

I've been taking duloxetine for depression, and unlike some other medications, I feel like I've actually lost a bit of weight. Is this a common side effect? Does duloxetine cause weight loss for some people?

While some people lose their appetite on this medicine, don't rely on it for weight loss. If your doctor allows, try to maintain a healthy routine with at least 30 minutes of brisk walking daily. Keeping your muscles active is much better than losing weight due to nausea.

In the initial weeks of starting duloxetine, many patients complain of mild nausea or a loss of appetite, which can lead to some weight loss. This usually settles down once your body gets used to the medicine. Just make sure you are eating small, frequent meals so you don't feel too weak.

It can be really scary to see your weight drop suddenly when you are already dealing with mental health struggles. I felt so weak and anxious when I started losing weight on this pill. Please be gentle with yourself and tell your doctor if the weight loss is making you feel too fatigued.

Honestly, I was so nauseous during my first week on duloxetine that even looking at a pizza made me sad. I lost two kilos, but trust me, it is not the fun kind of weight loss! Thankfully the appetite comes back slowly, so don't throw away your loose pants yet.

Yes, I also lost a bit of weight in the first month due to reduced appetite. Drinking fresh coconut water helped me stay hydrated and kept my energy levels up.
