Does diet coke cause weight gain?

I've switched to Diet Coke to try and reduce my sugar intake, hoping it would help with weight management. However, a friend told me that it can actually make you gain weight. Does Diet Coke cause weight gain instead of helping?

I used to feel so guilty drinking even diet soda when I was struggling with my weight loss journey. It doesn't have calories, but the sweet taste sometimes triggered my cravings for actual junk food later. Be kind to yourself and don't obsess over it too much.

Honestly, I drink it all the time during exams to avoid calories from normal chai or coffee. It hasn't made me gain weight at all. But yeah, sometimes it makes you feel bloated, which makes you look heavier than you actually are.

No, diet coke has zero calories so it won't directly cause weight gain. Just don't use it as an excuse to eat extra junk food.

I lost 15 kgs and kept drinking diet coke occasionally throughout my journey. It does not cause weight gain because there are no calories. The trick is to drink it with healthy meals, not as a replacement for water or alongside heavy fast food.

Technically zero calories means no weight gain, right? But for me, a chilled diet coke calls for a plate of spicy momos or french fries, and that's where the real weight gain happens! If you can control the side cravings, you are totally safe.
