Does cymbalta cause weight loss?

I've been on Cymbalta for some time now, and I've actually noticed I'm losing a bit of weight without really trying to. I was wondering if this medicine can cause weight loss as a side effect or if it's just coincidental with my routine changes.

When I first started Cymbalta, I actually lost about 2 kgs in the first month because it made me feel very nauseous and I completely lost my appetite. But once my body got used to the medication after a few weeks, my hunger came back to normal.

I noticed a slight drop in weight, but since I have high blood pressure, I always keep a regular track of my vitals and visit my clinic. Any sudden weight change should be discussed with your doctor to make sure your overall health parameters are stable.

If you are losing weight because of nausea, try chewing on a small piece of ginger or drinking fennel water to soothe your stomach. However, if you are losing weight very rapidly without trying, please consult your doctor immediately to rule out other issues.

Yes, I lost weight initially because the medicine caused a dry mouth and metallic taste, making food taste really bland. I had to focus on eating small, frequent meals to keep my energy up until that phase passed.

Duloxetine can cause decreased appetite as a common initial side effect, leading to mild weight loss. It’s usually temporary and stabilizes within 4 to 6 weeks. If it continues beyond that, you should get a proper clinical review.
