Does cvs caremark cover wegovy for weight loss?

My sister abroad is looking into Wegovy for weight management, and her insurance is through CVS Caremark. We're trying to figure out if it's covered. Does CVS Caremark provide coverage for Wegovy for weight loss purposes?

I am also looking into this because my doctor suggested lifestyle changes but my weight is still not coming down. Does anyone know if they require you to try other basic weight loss programs before they approve Wegovy? I am a bit hesitant to call customer care directly.

Honestly, it completely depends on your employer's specific plan with CVS Caremark. Some corporate plans cover Wegovy fully if your doctor provides a proper medical pre-authorization, while others exclude weight loss drugs entirely. Better to just login to your Caremark portal and check the drug formulary directly to save time.

My sleep schedule is so messed up that I am up at 3 AM looking at insurance documents. From what I saw, Caremark can be super strict with Wegovy approvals unless your doctor writes a solid case. Just prepare yourself for some back-and-forth paperwork, because they love making us work for it!

In our family, my brother was also asking about these new weight loss injections last month. My elder uncle told him to just do brisk walking and eat home food, but we must trust the specialists for such advanced medical steps. Caremark does cover it for some people, but please have your doctor write a detailed clinical note for the insurance team.

CVS Caremark covering Wegovy is like trying to get a straight answer from your landlord! It might happen, but you'll have to show them some serious proof of need first. Jokes apart, just call their helpline and ask them flat out if it's on your plan's formulary.

In my years of dealing with various health insurances, I have seen that these premium medications always require a prior authorization. Don't worry too much if they reject it the first time; doctors know exactly how to appeal these decisions. Keep your patience and let your medical team handle the insurance desk.
