Does cvs caremark cover mounjaro for weight loss?

My friend living in the US is struggling with weight loss and considering Mounjaro. She has CVS Caremark insurance. Does CVS Caremark typically cover Mounjaro when prescribed for weight loss?

Fighting with insurance companies while trying to manage your health is so emotionally draining and frustrating. I completely understand what you are going through, and I hope you get the approval soon without more stress.

I am trying to get my prescription approved and I'm so stressed out that they will reject it. Has anyone here actually got CVS Caremark to approve Mounjaro without having a type 2 diabetes diagnosis?

Actually yaar, CVS Caremark is very strict about this. Unless you have a type 2 diabetes medical history, they usually reject Mounjaro for just weight loss. You might have to look at Zepbound instead because that is approved for weight management.

Insurance rules can be very confusing. It is best to call your employer's HR or CVS directly to check your specific plan's drug list.

Losing weight is hard, but getting insurance to pay for it is a whole different workout! They usually need a prior authorization, so prepare yourself to run around for paperwork with your doctor.

Coverage really depends on your specific employer plan, but many insurance providers require proof of trying diet and exercise programs first. Make sure your doctor documents all your fitness efforts in the application.

I always believe in managing weight through warm water, proper meals, and active daily routine. But if you need these advanced injections for medical reasons, check with your clinic directly as they know the insurance rules best.
