Does creatine cause weight gain in women?

A few of my female friends at the gym are hesitant to use creatine because they're worried about gaining weight. Does creatine cause weight gain in women, and if so, is it significant or just water weight?

Yes, but let's get the facts straight. It is purely water weight inside the muscles, not fat. It actually makes your muscles look toned, not bulky, so don't let the scale scare you.

According to the studies I discussed with my general physician, creatine increases cellular hydration. My doctor mentioned that women might notice 1 to 1.5 kgs of water retention in the first couple of weeks, but it stabilizes soon after.

I tried all sorts of herbal teas to reduce the bloating when I started creatine, but honestly, only drinking regular warm water and staying active helped. The weight is just water, so don't stress. Give your body a couple of weeks to adjust.

Uff, at this age, breathing also feels like it adds weight! Yes, creatine gave me a little water bloat initially, but my muscles felt less tired. Just bear with the minor scale increase and don't panic.

Having PCOS makes us very sensitive to any weight change, so I was terrified of creatine. I did gain a kilo of water weight, but it didn't mess with my hormones. Just make sure to check with your endocrinologist first before starting it.

Don't blindly trust Instagram fitness reels saying creatine is completely harmless for every woman. Some people have underlying issues. Better to get a quick consult with a general physician before adding supplements to your routine.

Listen, don't stress too much about the weighing scale, yaar. It is just water sitting in your muscles to help you lift better. You are looking great, so just keep working out and ignore the numbers!

I spent days reading articles because I was so scared of getting bloated from creatine. I did see a minor increase on the scale and almost cried, but it really is just water. Just drink a lot of fluids and keep checking how you feel.

If you are worried the weight gain is something else like thyroid, don't waste money on expensive fancy clinics. Get a basic thyroid and renal panel from a local lab for 500-800 rupees first. That will give you clear peace of mind.

Between my toddler waking up all night and my crazy work hours, I barely know what day it is. I started creatine for energy and did gain a little weight, but honestly, I'm too tired to care about a kilo of water weight!

I can only speak from my own experience, but when I took creatine, I gained about 1.2 kgs in the first ten days. It didn't make me look fat at all, just a bit firmer. It went away once I stopped using it for a month.

A little water weight can happen, so drinking fennel seed water or ginger tea might help with the mild bloating feeling. But if you feel sudden swelling in your feet or face, stop taking it and see a doctor immediately.
