Does covid cause weight loss?

My mother had a severe COVID infection earlier this year, and since then, she's lost a lot of weight. We're getting worried. Is weight loss a common after-effect or long-term symptom of COVID?

Oh, absolutely. I lost nearly four kgs when I had covid because I completely lost my sense of smell and taste, so I had zero motivation to eat. It is super common, but don't worry, your appetite will return to normal once you start recovering.

Yes, it really does! The high fever and fighting off the virus burns so many calories, plus you barely eat anything. I went down a whole jeans size post-covid, but don't worry, you will regain your healthy weight soon with good food!

I lost three kilos in a week because the thought of eating plain boiled veggies and khichdi was so depressing! My love for butter chicken couldn't save me because I couldn't taste a thing. Once your taste comes back, you'll easily eat your way back to your normal weight.

Bro, yes, I looked like a skeleton after my ten-day isolation. I literally had no energy to even walk to the kitchen, let alone eat proper meals. Just focus on drinking milkshakes or juices if you can't handle solid food right now.

Yes, rapid muscle and water weight loss is very common during severe infections. I lost five kilos, and the key to recovering that strength was incorporating a high-protein diet with paneer, sattu, and dal chilla. Don't rush into heavy eating immediately; build it up slowly.

Weight loss happens because the body is weak and dehydration kicks in. Drink lots of coconut water, fresh lime water, and eat simple dal-rice with a spoon of ghee. There is no need for expensive protein supplements, just simple home food will do the job.
