Does bulimia cause weight loss?

Someone I know has been struggling with bulimia, and I'm trying to understand the condition better to support her. I often hear that people with bulimia lose a lot of weight, but is that always the case? Does bulimia consistently cause weight loss?

Haan na, people think it causes a lot of weight loss, but actually it is very unpredictable. Sometimes weight just fluctuates heavily or even stays the same because the body goes into starvation mode. It is a very painful cycle, and it really damages the metabolism from inside.

In many cases, it doesn't cause sustained weight loss because it completely wrecks your thyroid and metabolic hormones. I struggle with thyroid issues myself and know how easily your system can get damaged. You should get regular blood tests and consult a doctor to see how your thyroid and electrolyte levels are doing.

If you look at the metabolic data, it actually doesn't guarantee weight loss because purging only removes a fraction of the calories consumed during a binge. My fitness trackers and calorie logs taught me that regular, balanced meals are the only way to maintain a stable weight. Purging just messes up your hydration and muscle mass.

I was actually reading up on this recently because of a show I watched. It turns out many people with bulimia stay at a normal weight or even gain some, because the body starts holding onto every calorie it can get. It is quite a complex and misunderstood struggle.

I know how exhausting it is to fight these thoughts every single day, and how desperate we can get to see the scale go down. But honestly, it didn't give me the body I wanted, only severe fatigue, hair fall, and a lot of emotional pain. You are not alone in this, and finding a therapist was the best decision I ever made.

Let's be very direct: bulimia is not a weight loss plan, it's a serious medical condition. Most people actually maintain a normal weight because of the binge-purge cycles, but they severely damage their teeth, throat, and stomach in the process. It is absolutely critical to address the root cause with a professional.

I get so worried thinking about how much stress this puts on the heart and organs. Even if there is some temporary weight loss, the constant purging can cause sudden electrolyte imbalances which are so dangerous. Please, if you or someone you know is going through this, seek medical help immediately.

Listen to me, don't focus on the weight aspect of this at all. It might seem like a way to control weight, but it's incredibly dangerous for your heart and digestive tract. Your health and your life are worth so much more than a number on the scale, so please take care and talk to a doctor.

Weight loss through such methods is not real or lasting, it only brings weakness. I always believe in simple, home-cooked food eaten with peace of mind to keep the body healthy. If your digestion is completely ruined, try having light khichdi and buttermilk, but please stay away from these harmful habits.

At the hospital where I go for my checkups, the doctors always emphasize that eating disorders cause severe internal damage rather than healthy weight management. You must ask a specialist doctor clearly about the long-term metabolic risks. They can guide you with a proper, safe recovery plan.
