Does blue cross blue shield cover weight loss medication?

After my second child, I'm finding it really hard to lose the extra weight. My doctor has discussed weight loss medication as an option. Does health insurance generally cover these types of medicines here?

Actually, it depends on your specific company plan yaar. Some premium corporate BCBS plans cover them easily, but many basic ones don't cover weight loss meds at all. You should call customer care and check directly.

Honestly, navigating insurance is such a headache when you are in college. From what I've heard, BCBS is super strict with weight loss drugs and they usually need a lot of doctor notes to approve them.

I completely understand why you are looking into this, as weight management is such a journey. My colleague got her meds approved under BCBS after her doctor submitted a prior authorization showing her BMI and cholesterol levels. It takes some time but it is possible!

Due to my high BP, my doctor advised me to lose weight and prescribed some medications. BCBS covered them because my doctor linked it directly to managing my cardiovascular risk. Always make sure to monitor your BP regularly while starting new meds.

The coverage for anti-obesity medications under BCBS is highly variable and depends on your employer's specific group plan. Your doctor's clinical notes will play a crucial role in the approval process, so discuss the options with them first.

Yes, I agree that coverage varies. Log into the BCBS online portal and search the 'Price a Medication' tab to get your answer instantly.

I went through this entire process with BCBS last year. To get approval, your doctor must submit a prior authorization form proving that you have tried other diet and exercise programs for at least six months without success.
