Does blue cross blue shield cover weight loss?

I'm really struggling with my weight and it's affecting my health. I'm looking into different weight loss programs and treatments. Do health insurance plans in India typically cover any form of weight loss interventions?

I was told BCBS might cover bariatric surgery if nothing else works, but the approval process sounds so complicated. Has anyone here gone through this with BCBS? Did they make you wait for months before approving it?

Hello, I am looking to start a weight loss program because of health reasons. Does BCBS cover nutritionist visits or gym memberships as part of their wellness benefits? I would be very grateful if anyone could guide me.

I am always so scared that if I go to a weight loss clinic, my insurance will reject the claim and send me a huge bill! From what I know, BCBS covers nutritional counseling but you must get a referral from your primary doctor first to be safe.

Coverage for weight loss programs under BCBS varies significantly by employer and region. Some plans offer great wellness discounts, while others cover medical weight loss therapy. It is best to have your physician outline a treatment plan and check it against your specific policy.

Over the years, I have seen insurance companies slowly starting to cover preventative health and weight management because they realize it prevents bigger heart issues later. Speak to your doctor, they know how to write the recommendations so BCBS approves it.

Look, BCBS doesn't just hand out money for weight loss unless it's a real medical necessity. If your BMI is high and causing other health issues, they will cover doctor visits and some medications. Call them directly instead of guessing.
