Does anthem cover weight loss programs?

Thinking of joining a structured weight loss program to get my health back on track. I have an Anthem insurance policy. I was wondering if Anthem offers any coverage for weight loss programs, or if it's completely out of pocket?

Honestly, weight issues take such a heavy toll on your mental peace, I completely feel you. I struggled for years feeling down about my weight before trying to get professional help. From what I know, it really depends on your specific policy and if it's medically necessary, so don't lose heart and just check with them directly.

It varies totally by your employer plan. Save your time and don't guess, just call the HR or the helpline number on the back of your card. They will tell you the exact policy details in five minutes.

Take a deep breath, veerji. Anthem does cover some preventative programs and nutritional counseling, but the rules are a bit specific. Just give their customer care a quick call so you don't face any surprises later. We will figure this out, don't worry.

Don't go by what people say on forums about insurance coverage, it is very risky. Talk to your primary doctor first and ask them to verify with your insurance coordinator. Every policy has different exclusions and you don't want a huge bill later.

Actually, I was just searching about this yesterday because I want to join a program too! I read online that they cover some wellness coaching, but some plans need your doctor to submit a proper prescription first. Let me know if you find out the exact process.

My teenager was struggling with sudden weight gain and we wanted to enroll her in a structured clinic program. When I checked with Anthem, they told me they cover nutritional therapy if referred by a pediatrician. Do check with your family doctor first, it makes the process much smoother.

I just went through this whole process last month! My Anthem plan covered the dietitian visits completely, but the actual fitness program was out-of-pocket. Definitely log into your member portal because they have a list of approved network clinics that are covered.

My doctor told me that insurance companies usually approve weight management programs if there's a co-morbidity like high BP or pre-diabetes. Anthem has specific criteria, and my physician had to send a pre-authorization letter detailing my health markers before they agreed to cover it.
