Does alcohol slow weight loss?

I'm trying to lose weight and have been very disciplined with my diet and exercise routine. I do enjoy a drink or two on social occasions, but I'm concerned if it's slowing down my weight loss efforts.

Having thyroid issues already makes my metabolism super slow, and alcohol just pauses it completely. The liver prioritizes burning alcohol over fats, which halts weight loss. Keep tracking your thyroid levels and consult your doctor about diet adjustments.

I am too tired to even cook, let alone burn off alcohol calories. Every time I have a glass of wine, my scale doesn't budge for a week. Honestly, it is so frustrating because losing weight is already hard enough without drinks ruining it!

Absolutely it does. You can't expect to lose weight if you are adding 500 liquid calories every weekend. Plus, the hangover cravings make you eat greasy junk. Cut the alcohol completely for a month and you will see immediate results.

Yes, alcohol is metabolically processed as a priority fuel, which means lipolysis (fat burning) is temporarily suspended. Additionally, alcohol contains empty calories that are easy to overconsume. For optimal weight loss results, it is best to discuss a structured nutrition plan with a qualified dietitian.

In my 20s, I could drink beer and still lose weight, but now at 51, even looking at a drink adds an inch to my waist! Yes, it slows down metabolism drastically. If you want to lose weight now, you have to be much stricter with your drinks.

It definitely slows it down, but if your weight loss is suddenly stalled despite a good diet, you should get a full body checkup. Sometimes underlying liver issues or thyroid imbalances can be the cause, and alcohol only makes those worse.
