Does aetna cover weight loss medication?

My friend who works in a pharma company was telling me about some new weight loss medications. I have Aetna insurance through my company, and I'm wondering if Aetna covers weight loss medication as part of their plans.

You have to budget very carefully because even if Aetna covers the main medication, you still have to pay for regular doctor visits and blood tests. Ask the clinic beforehand about the exact co-pay amounts so you don't face sudden high bills.

Having PCOS makes weight loss so incredibly slow, so I get why you're looking into this. Just be careful because insurance companies can be very finicky about what they approve. I had to show my ultrasound and hormone reports before they even considered my request.

I am so worried that if I ask my doctor for these meds, my insurance premium will go up next year. Does anyone know if that actually happens? The whole insurance system makes me so nervous.

I was just reading about this on some online forums yesterday because I want to start my fitness journey too. It seems like coverage really varies depending on whether your plan is corporate or individual. Following this thread to see what others say!

I tried everything from apple cider vinegar to amla juice before realizing some metabolic issues just need proper medicine. It is completely okay to seek medical help for weight loss, just make sure to call Aetna directly to get the exact list of approved brands.

I always go to a reputed hospital for my checkups, and their billing department actually helped me check my Aetna coverage directly. It is much easier to let the hospital coordinators check with your insurance than trying to decode the policy yourself.

Since I have high blood pressure, my doctor was very careful about prescribing any weight loss pills because some can raise your heart rate. Make sure you get your BP and vitals checked regularly if you start any such treatment.

My cousin actually tried to get her meds covered through Aetna and it took like three weeks of constant emails. It is honestly such a headache but hang in there, it is possible if you keep badgering them.

I hope you get your approval soon and find something that works for you. Just take it easy on yourself, health journeys are always a bit long but you will get there.

These medications can be very heavy on the liver, so definitely consult a proper specialist first. Meanwhile, you can try drinking warm ginger tea after meals to help with digestion and metabolism naturally.

If you get the coverage, that is great, but remember that these pills work best when you are also lifting weights and eating in a calorie deficit. Don't rely solely on the meds to do all the work.
