Does aetna cover any weight loss drugs?

I've been trying to lose weight for a while, and my doctor mentioned some new weight loss drugs that are available. My insurance is Aetna, so I wanted to ask if Aetna generally covers any of these newer weight loss medications?

Usually, insurance plans like Aetna cover these medications if you have type 2 diabetes or related metabolic issues. They might not cover them if it is purely for weight loss without other medical conditions. You should check your specific formulary list to see what is approved.

I used to ignore my weight and health issues until I ended up with major heart blockages, so please take your health seriously. Regarding Aetna, their coverage entirely depends on your specific employer plan. Call their customer service directly and ask them what steps you need to take for approval.

Dealing with weight issues when you have hormonal struggles like PCOS is so hard, I completely feel you. From what I have researched, Aetna sometimes covers weight loss drugs, but they require a lot of prior authorizations and doctor letters. Don't lose hope, but be prepared for some paperwork.

It can be very confusing to deal with these insurance queries. Many plans do cover these medicines if your doctor writes a strong recommendation. I hope your plan covers it so you can get the right treatment smoothly.

Based on what I have seen other members share, Aetna's coverage for weight loss medications like Saxenda or Wegovy varies heavily by the state and the specific corporate plan you have. I always recommend asking your HR or logging into the Aetna portal to check the 'Pharmacy' tab directly. It saves a lot of time.

Honestly, navigating insurance is more tiring than my 3 AM work shifts. Aetna might cover it, but they make you jump through so many hoops you'll probably lose weight just from the stress of calling them. Better to check your plan document before getting your hopes up.
