Does add medication cause weight loss?

My son recently started medication for his ADD. I've noticed he has less appetite and seems to be losing a bit of weight. Does ADD medication commonly cause weight loss in children?

Yes, many ADD or ADHD stimulant medications are known to suppress appetite, which can lead to weight loss. However, this effect varies from person to person. It is highly recommended to monitor this closely with your prescribing doctor.

Since these medications can reduce hunger, it is very important to plan high-calorie, nutrient-dense vegetarian meals. Including things like nuts, dairy, and sprouts can help maintain weight even if you don't feel like eating. Don't skip meals.

I got so scared when I lost 4 kgs in the first month of starting my treatment. But my doctor reassured me that appetite suppression is normal initially and it usually stabilizes after a few months. Just eat small, regular meals.

Yes, stimulants will spike your metabolism and blunt your appetite. If you are active or lifting weights, make sure you track your calories so you don't lose muscle mass. Drinking your calories through shakes can help if your appetite is low.

It is important to keep your mind calm and take care of your physical body during any treatment. If the medication is causing you to lose weight, try to eat mindfully and bless your food. Do keep your doctor updated on how you are feeling.

I barely have time to sleep, and sometimes these meds make me completely forget to eat lunch. You just look at food and feel zero interest. If you are starting them, keep some snacks nearby otherwise you will drop weight fast.
