Does acetazolamide cause weight loss?

I've been taking Acetazolamide for my glaucoma for a few months now. I've noticed I'm steadily losing weight, even without changing my diet much. Is it possible that Acetazolamide causes weight loss as a side effect?

It can cause some weight reduction because it is a water pill and makes you lose fluids. I feel keeping a gentle daily routine of pranayama helps steady the body's natural balance. Please don't use it for weight control, take it only as your doctor advised.

I totally get it, seeing your weight drop suddenly can be really confusing and worrying. It does cause loss of fluids and appetite, which leads to this. Try to have small meals and keep your doctor informed about any changes.

I noticed the same thing when I was prescribed this. It makes carbonated drinks taste totally flat and ruins your taste buds, so you end up eating much less. Just focus on eating healthy home food and don't let the weight drop make you weak.

Actually yaar, it can make you lose weight because it's a diuretic and literally flushes out water from your body. Plus, food tastes so weird with this medicine that you just don't feel like eating. Just make sure you are hydrated, okay?

I have lost almost 3 kgs in the last two weeks since starting this, and I'm really starting to feel anxious. Is this normal or should I be worried? Has anyone else experienced such quick weight drop on this medication?

Man, this medicine had me running to the washroom every hour, so obviously you're going to lose some water weight. Combined with the weird metallic taste in my mouth, food felt like cardboard. Just hang in there and keep your doc posted.

Yes, it causes weight loss mainly due to water loss and less hunger. To manage the weakness, try drinking fresh coconut water or nimbu paani daily, it's cheap and keeps your salts balanced. Keep your doctor updated about the weight change.

Yes, it can cause weight loss because of its diuretic effect and loss of appetite. Talk to your doctor if it's too much.

Yes, weight loss is a known side effect due to dehydration and a metallic taste in the mouth that ruins your appetite. It's a serious prescription drug, not a diet pill. Monitor your weight and keep your doctor updated.

Haan yaar, isse thoda weight loss ho sakta hai kyunki appetite kam ho jati hai aur body se water weight nikalta hai. But isko weight loss ki tarah mat use karna na, dangerous ho sakta hai. Always ask your doctor first.
