Does 6 hours of sleep cause weight gain?

I've been quite busy with work lately and only manage about 6 hours of sleep on most nights. I've also noticed I'm gaining a bit of weight. Can getting only 6 hours of sleep consistently cause weight gain, or is it something else?

With my PCOS, I have noticed that getting only 6 hours of sleep definitely messes with my metabolism and increases my cravings the next day. It might not directly cause weight gain for everyone, but it can make managing weight much harder. I try to aim for 7-8 hours just to be safe and keep my hormones balanced.

Please don't ignore poor sleep habits like I did for years, thinking 5 or 6 hours was enough while my weight kept creeping up. It eventually led to high blood pressure and other issues before I took it seriously. Please get a proper checkup and discuss your sleep patterns with a doctor before it impacts your health.

While 6 hours might work for some people, scientific studies do suggest that sleep deprivation can disrupt cortisol and hunger hormones, potentially leading to weight gain over time. However, every body is unique, so it is best to consult a general physician or a nutritionist to see what sleep duration is optimal for your metabolic health.

Honestly, I was stuck at a weight loss plateau for six months while sleeping just 6 hours a night. Once I made a strict rule to sleep for 7.5 hours, my metabolism improved and I finally started losing weight again. Your body definitely needs that extra rest to repair and burn fat.

My daughter was sleeping barely 6 hours because of her college exams and she put on a lot of weight due to stress eating. We helped her set a better night routine, and getting proper rest made a huge difference to her energy and weight. Take care of your sleep, it is the foundation of good health.
