Do women forget the pain of childbirth?

I'm thinking about having children in the future, and everyone talks about how painful childbirth is. But then I hear mothers say they eventually forget it. Do women truly forget the pain of childbirth over time?

We don't actually forget the physical pain, but the joy of holding the baby makes the memory of that pain fade over time.

I am expecting my first baby next month and I'm so terrified of the delivery pain. People keep telling me I will forget it all the moment I see my baby, but is that actually true? Does the fear ever really go away after it's done?

There is a lot of romanticized talk online about 'forgetting pain' due to oxytocin. Medically speaking, pain memory is highly subjective and varies from person to person. Please discuss birth plans and pain management options, like epidurals, directly with your obstetrician.

As a mother of two who also had gestational diabetes, I can tell you we remember the struggle, but we move past it. Keeping yourself healthy, watching your diet, and keeping your sugar levels normal during pregnancy helps make the whole experience much smoother.

Honestly, I did not forget the trauma or the pain at all, and it took me a long time to heal emotionally after my delivery. It's completely okay if you don't instantly forget it like others claim. Your feelings and your recovery journey are completely valid.
