Do statins cause weight loss?

After starting statins recently, surprisingly, I've lost a little weight without even trying. I was wondering if statins can cause weight loss as a side effect. It's not a lot, but it's noticeable, doc.

In my experience, any major weight change comes from lifestyle adjustments. When people start taking heart medication, they often begin walking and doing light pranayama. That gentle shift is what usually brings the weight down.

Yaar, weight loss toh statins se direct nahi hota hai na. Haan, but if you are eating healthy now for your cholesterol, then weight lose ho sakta hai. My chacha actually experienced this when he changed his diet.

According to the discussions I had with my physician, statins do not directly cause weight loss. He explained that any drop in weight is usually because patients actively cut down on high-fat foods once they are diagnosed with high cholesterol.

I go to a reputed hospital here and my specialist specifically told me that sudden weight loss is not a standard side effect of statins. If you are experiencing unexpected weight loss, please book an appointment with your doctor to check for other reasons.

Honestly, weight loss depends on your caloric deficit, not statins. If your doc has given you the green light to exercise, try to hit 10k steps daily. That combined with your meds will give you the best heart health results.

I totally understand the anxiety when your weight starts shifting unexpectedly while on new meds. It can be so scary to watch your body change and wonder if something is wrong. Please talk to your family and your doctor so you don't have to carry this stress alone.
