Do pre and probiotics help with weight loss?

I'm trying really hard to lose weight, and my dietitian suggested adding pre and probiotics to my diet. I'm curious if they actually make a significant difference. Do pre and probiotics really help with weight loss, or is it more for gut health generally?

They can help improve your gut digestion, but don't expect magic for weight loss. I have thyroid issues and realized my weight was stubborn because of my TSH levels, not just gut health. Please get your regular thyroid tests done and follow up with a doctor instead of relying only on these supplements.

Don't fall for the marketing hype of expensive pre and probiotic weight loss pills online. Many are completely useless and unregulated. Speak to a qualified doctor or clinical dietitian to see if you actually need them for your gut.

I researched this heavily and my gastroenterologist confirmed it. Prebiotics feed the good bacteria and probiotics add them, which reduces gut inflammation and improves metabolism. However, he clearly said they only support weight loss if you are already in a calorie deficit and exercising daily.

They improve your gut health and digestion, which indirectly helps with weight management, but they won't burn fat on their own.

I started taking a probiotic drink daily hoping to lose some belly fat, but I actually feel a bit bloated and gassy now. Has anyone else experienced this initial bloating? I am a bit anxious if I should continue taking them or stop.
