Do opioids cause weight loss?

For my chronic pain, I've been prescribed opioids and have been taking them for a few months. Interestingly, I've noticed a significant drop in my weight, even without changing my diet much. Is it possible that opioids cause weight loss as a side effect?

These heavy medications can disturb the natural balance of your body, leading to a loss of appetite and weight. Stay calm, focus on healing, and try to nourish your body with small portions of pure, wholesome food.

Such heavy medicines can create a lot of dry heat in the digestive tract, suppressing your hunger. Doing very gentle deep breathing or pranayama can help calm the stomach and slowly restore a healthy appetite.

My mother always told me that strong medicines can weaken the stomach and cause weight drop. When we consulted our family doctor, he confirmed that nausea is a common side effect of these painkillers. It is best to follow your doctor's advice on how to manage your diet.

From what I understand, weight changes on such strong medications can happen due to severe nausea and loss of appetite. It's a very delicate issue, so please consult your doctor to ensure you are getting proper nutrition.

Sudden weight loss should never be ignored, especially when you are on heavy prescription drugs. It can affect your entire metabolic system. Please ask your doctor for a complete health checkup and blood tests to make sure everything is stable.

Yes, they can cause weight loss because they often trigger nausea and make you lose interest in food. If you are struggling to eat, try having simple, nutrient-rich liquid options like moong dal soup, coconut water, or fresh fruit juices.

I lost quite a bit of weight when I was on pain medication because of constant nausea. The only thing that helped was taking the medicines strictly after meals and eating small, bland foods like toast or rice throughout the day. Definitely discuss this with your doctor.
