Do opiates cause weight loss?

I've been on a certain opiate for my chronic pain for some time now, and I've actually lost a noticeable amount of weight. My appetite hasn't changed much, so I'm a bit puzzled. Can opiates cause weight loss in some individuals, or is it uncommon?

Yes, they can cause weight loss because they often reduce your appetite and cause nausea.

Actually yaar, they mess up your appetite completely and cause a lot of nausea, which naturally leads to weight loss. It's not a healthy kind of weight loss at all. If you are experiencing this, you should talk to your doctor.

Yes, a drop in weight is a common side effect because of nausea and reduced interest in food. Please take care of your health and consult your physician.

They often cause severe nausea and loss of appetite, which leads to sudden weight drop. Even if you don't feel like eating, try to have small portions of light, nutrient-rich foods like moong dal soup or coconut water to keep your strength up.

Beta, these heavy medicines heat up the stomach and kill your hunger, which makes you thin and weak. Try to drink fresh buttermilk and eat light home-cooked food. Do tell your doctor if you are losing too much weight.
