Do kidney stones cause weight loss?

I've lost a significant amount of weight in the last few months, but I haven't really changed my diet or exercise much. This coincided with my recent kidney stone diagnosis. Can kidney stones cause weight loss, or is my weight loss unrelated to them?

Yes, they can indirectly cause weight loss because of the constant nausea and loss of appetite due to severe pain.

Hey, don't stress too much about losing a bit of weight right now. When you're dealing with kidney stone pain and feeling constantly nauseous, you naturally end up eating less. Just focus on healing and staying hydrated, your appetite will come back soon!

In my experience, when the body is in pain, our digestive fire or agni weakens, leading to a natural loss of appetite. This can cause some temporary weight loss. Please focus on eating light, warm meals like khichdi and practicing gentle breathing to restore your strength.

Kidney stones don't directly burn fat, but the severe pain often triggers nausea and vomiting, which leads to eating very little and losing weight. If your weight loss is sudden and significant, though, you should consult your doctor to rule out other issues.

I lost about 4 kgs when I had a large kidney stone because I simply couldn't eat anything due to the constant dull ache and nausea. My tip is to drink electrolyte water or coconut water to keep your energy up even if you don't feel like eating heavy meals. See a urologist soon.

I completely understand how scary it feels when you see the scale dropping along with all this pain. I panicked thinking it was something fatal, but it was just because of the vomiting and lack of appetite. Try to take it easy on yourself and talk to your doctor to ease your mind.
