Do diuretics cause weight loss?

A friend of mine mentioned that his doctor gave him diuretics and he ended up losing some weight. Can diuretics actually cause weight loss, or was it just a coincidence for him?

I read online that they cause weight loss, but then I started worrying if it's safe weight loss or just dehydration. It turns out it's just water weight, not actual fat loss. Please be careful and don't take them without asking a doctor first.

Yes, they do, but only if you count running to the washroom every ten minutes as a workout! Haha, but seriously, it's just water weight leaving your body, not actual fat. Once you drink water, it comes right back.

Having thyroid issues, I struggle with fluid bloating and have used these, but the weight loss is temporary water reduction. It is vital to get regular blood tests done. Always follow up with your doctor before taking any such pills.

Diuretics only cause temporary fluid loss, which is not real fat loss. For sustainable weight loss, nothing beats a clean diet and a consistent daily walk. If your doctor allows, start with 30 minutes of brisk walking instead of relying on pills.

If losing water weight counted as real fitness, I'd be a supermodel by now with all my coffee drinking. It's temporary weight loss, guys. Don't stress your kidneys over a number on the scale.

Yes, they help flush out excess water so you might see the scale drop quickly! 💧 But remember, this isn't real fat loss, just fluid. Stay safe and keep hydrated! 😊

I was researching this and found that diuretics are strictly for medical fluid retention, not fat burning. The weight loss is purely due to peeing out water. It is interesting how many people mistake it for actual weight loss.

Using diuretics without a prescription for weight loss can lead to dangerous dehydration and electrolyte imbalance. Please get your health checked by a qualified doctor before starting any medication.

Actually yaar, it's just water weight that goes away. Don't think you are burning fat because you're peeing more. It can actually cause dehydration if you're not careful, so don't try it without a doc's okay.

I take diuretics for my high BP, and yes, they reduce water retention which shows as weight loss. But this is a medical treatment, not a fitness hack. Keep up with your regular medical checkups to monitor your kidney function.

I totally get it, seeing the scale drop can make you feel like it's working, but it is just water weight. Please don't use them as a shortcut for slimming down. Take care of your kidneys and stay safe.

I panicked when I saw my weight drop suddenly after starting these pills for blood pressure. My doctor reassured me that it is completely normal to lose water weight initially. Don't worry, it is just the fluid balance settling down.
