Can your obgyn prescribe weight loss meds?

After my delivery, I've really struggled to lose the baby weight, and it's affecting my confidence. I have my regular follow-ups with my OBGYN. Can they usually prescribe weight loss medications, or is that something I'd need to see a different specialist for?

Honestly, I was so stressed when my weight wouldn't budge and thought something was seriously wrong with my hormones. When I asked my gynaecologist, she explained it is very common and gave me a prescription that really helped regulate my cycle and weight. Don't worry, just talk to them!

Yes, they can prescribe them if they feel it is necessary for your health. Just talk to your doctor openly about your concerns. They will guide you with what is best for your body.

Yes, an obgyn is fully qualified to prescribe these, particularly when excess weight is impacting your reproductive health or causing insulin resistance. Just make sure you ask them about the potential side effects so you know what to expect.

They definitely can, especially if there is a hormonal issue like thyroid or PCOS making weight loss hard. Still, those medicines work best when you pair them with a consistent strength training routine and a clean calorie-deficit diet. Try to build healthy habits alongside the treatment.

Hey! Yes, they actually do. When I went for my irregular periods, my obgyn suggested a mild weight loss medication because my weight was affecting my cycle. It's totally normal to discuss this with them during your regular visit.

My gynaecologist prescribed metformin for my PCOS, which helped a bit with weight management by controlling my insulin levels. It is not a magic weight loss drug though, and results vary a lot from person to person. It is best to discuss your specific symptoms with your doc.

Please be very careful with weight loss pills. My previous doctor put me on some tablets, and I suffered from severe palpitations and anxiety. Make sure your obgyn runs complete blood tests to see if you really need medication or if there is an underlying issue first.
