Can you have hyperthyroidism without weight loss?

My doctor suspects hyperthyroidism, but I haven't experienced any weight loss, rather I've gained a bit. Is it possible to have hyperthyroidism without losing weight?

Yes, it is possible. Sometimes when you have underlying issues like PCOS, the metabolism behaves differently and you might not see the typical weight loss even with high thyroid levels. I would suggest keeping track of other symptoms and discussing them with your endocrinologist.

Yeah bro, totally possible. I had crazy high thyroid levels but my weight didn't budge even an inch, though my hands used to shake and I was sweating like crazy all the time. Don't go by weight, just get a simple blood test done to know the real picture.

That is actually very interesting because we always read that hyper means losing weight and hypo means gaining it. I have been reading up on this lately and found out that body chemistry is so complex that standard textbook symptoms don't apply to everyone. Human bodies are really unpredictable!

According to my doctor, about 10 percent of people with hyperthyroidism actually gain weight or stay the same, mostly because the thyroid increases your appetite dramatically. So even though your metabolism is fast, you end up eating much more to compensate. Definitely rely on blood tests rather than your weight scale.

Please don't wait for weight loss to get your thyroid checked, as ignoring it can lead to heart palpitations and high blood pressure. I overlooked my symptoms because my weight was stable, and ended up with severe complications. Go to a good doctor and get your T3, T4, and TSH tested immediately.

My teenage daughter was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism last year and she did not lose any weight at all, in fact she gained a couple of kilos because she was always hungry. We only caught it because of her high heart rate and anxiety. Keep a close eye on their sleep and mood too, not just weight.
