Can women take flomax for kidney stones?

I'm currently trying to pass a kidney stone, and my doctor prescribed some medication. My husband asked if it was like Flomax, which he took for his stone. Can women also take Flomax to help pass kidney stones?

Yes, doctors sometimes prescribe Flomax to women to help relax the ureter and pass kidney stones. However, you should never self-medicate with this. Drink plenty of water and make sure you have a doctor's prescription.

I had to cut down on my favorite spicy foods and daily tea when I got a kidney stone! My doctor mentioned that Flomax is sometimes used off-label for women too, but honestly, skipping the tomato chutneys and drinking tons of coconut water helped me pass mine.

I totally get it, kidney stone pain is absolutely terrible and you just want some relief. Yes, women can take it if a doctor prescribes it to help pass the stone. Please do consult a specialist before taking it, as they will check if the stone size is suitable.

My doctor actually prescribed Flomax to me last year when I had a 5mm kidney stone. It made me feel a bit dizzy, which my doctor said is a common side effect, but it did help me pass the stone in a few days.

I got so anxious when my doctor suggested Flomax because the label says it is for men with prostate issues! But she explained it works the same way for women's urinary tracts to let the stone slip out. Just double-check with your doctor so you feel safe.

Yes, although primarily used for prostate issues in men, Flomax is regularly used for women to help pass distal ureteral stones. It is very effective but must be taken under medical supervision to monitor any blood pressure drops.
