Can weight loss improve copd?

My father has COPD, and his doctor has been constantly telling him to lose weight. He says it will help his breathing. I'm wondering, can weight loss actually improve COPD symptoms and lung function?

Losing excess weight reduces the load on your lungs and heart, making it easier to breathe. Try adding short, slow walks daily if your doctor permits, as it helps build stamina without straining your lungs.

Shedding some weight means your lungs don't have to work overtime like a typical government office! It definitely makes breathing easier, so keep up the good work and stay happy.

My grandfather had severe breathing issues, and our family elders always advised keeping weight in check to reduce chest heaviness. It really helped him breathe better, but of course, we always followed the pulmonologist's prescriptions carefully.

My father was recently diagnosed with COPD and he is slightly overweight. Can you please suggest what kind of mild exercises are safe for someone with breathing difficulties to lose weight safely?
