Can weight loss cause irregular periods?

I started a strict diet and exercise plan about six months ago and have lost a good amount of weight. Since then, my periods have become really irregular, sometimes skipping a month altogether. Is it possible that weight loss can cause irregular periods?

Yes, rapid weight loss can definitely disrupt your hormonal balance and cause irregular periods. I always advise consulting a good gynecologist at a proper clinic. They will probably check your thyroid or PCOS levels to find the exact reason.

Arey, my body gets confused if I lose even two kilos! It is like my hormones go on a strike. But seriously, sudden diet changes throw the cycle completely out of whack, so don't shock your body with extreme crash diets.

Absolutely it can. When you drop weight too fast, your body goes into survival mode and stops producing enough estrogen, which halts your cycle. You need to stop starving yourself and eat a sustainable amount of calories.

Same here, I lost around 5 kgs in a month during exams cuz of stress and skipping meals, and my period was late by two weeks. It was so scary! Seriously, skipping dinner is not worth the stress, guys.

Yes, if you're not getting enough healthy fats in your vegetarian diet while trying to lose weight, your hormones will suffer. Make sure you are including ghee, almonds, and seeds in your meals so your body has the raw materials to make hormones.

Before you spend a lot of money on expensive hormone tests, maybe track your food and calorie intake for a month. Sometimes just eating slightly more healthy fats like nuts can fix the issue. If it still doesn't get better, look for a budget-friendly diagnostic lab for a basic thyroid profile.
