Can vomiting cause weight loss?

I've been having continuous vomiting for the past few days because of a viral infection, and I've noticed I've lost some weight. Is it common to lose weight quickly from frequent vomiting? I'm feeling very weak.

I totally get it, losing weight rapidly after being sick can be so scary and makes you feel incredibly weak. It is usually just water weight and temporary, so try not to worry. Your body just needs some time to recover.

If you are losing weight rapidly because you cannot keep any food or liquid down, it is very risky and can lead to severe metabolic imbalances. Please do not self-manage this and see a doctor for proper treatment.

Haan na, after vomiting continuously for two days, anyone will look thin and pale because of dehydration. Ho na, don't worry too much, just have some sweet coconut water and you will feel strong again very soon.

Look, obviously if you throw up everything you eat, you will lose weight because of dehydration and empty stomach. Don't stress about the scale right now. Drink ORS, eat light khichdi, and let your body heal.

Yes, vomiting causes temporary weight loss mainly due to dehydration and fluid depletion. It normalizes once you are hydrated and eating again.

Yes, vomiting empties the body of fluids and nourishment, leading to sudden temporary weight loss. Please rest, do very gentle breathing exercises when you feel better, and nourish yourself with warm rice gruel to regain your strength.

Beta, don't worry about the weight loss after being sick. In my sixty years, I have seen that the body naturally bounces back once you start eating regular homemade food again. Just focus on resting well.

It definitely causes temporary weight loss because you are missing out on all your delicious daily meals! But don't worry, once your stomach settles down and you go back to eating parathas, those lost kilos will find their way back very quickly.

I just recovered from a bad stomach bug last week and lost almost 2 kgs in three days because of constant vomiting. Most of it is just dehydration and fluid loss. Once I started eating regular meals, my weight came back to normal.

If you look at your fitness tracker, you'll see a sudden drop, but that's almost 100% water loss and glycogen depletion, not actual fat loss. Log your water intake and focus on getting your electrolytes back up before worrying about the scale.

Please be careful. I ignored persistent vomiting and sudden weight loss thinking it was just a stomach upset, and it turned out to be a severe ulcer. If this is ongoing, please get a proper medical checkup immediately.

Yes, rapid weight loss after vomiting is primarily due to fluid and electrolyte loss. We always advise patients to sip ORS or electoral water slowly to prevent severe dehydration, which can be dangerous.
