Can vitamin deficiency cause weight gain?

Despite trying to eat healthy and exercise, I've been slowly gaining weight, and I'm quite frustrated. Someone mentioned that some vitamin deficiencies can lead to weight gain. Is this true, and which ones should I check?

Yes, deficiencies in vitamins like D3 and B12 can slow down your metabolism and make you feel constantly fatigued, which indirectly leads to weight gain. However, because weight gain can be linked to several other factors, getting a professional clinical diagnosis is the best path forward.

Low vitamin levels can make you feel very lethargic, which stops you from staying active and causes weight gain. While eating a balanced diet with seasonal fruits and milk helps, you must see a doctor if your weight gain is sudden or accompanied by severe fatigue. Do not try to self-diagnose.

Yes, absolutely. Vitamin D and B12 deficiencies are major culprits for low energy and weight gain, so please get a blood test done.

I can only speak from my own experience, but I was constantly tired and putting on weight last year. When my doctor checked, my Vitamin D was extremely low, and once I finished the prescribed supplement course, my energy levels returned and my weight stabilized. It is definitely worth getting checked.

When your body lacks essential vitamins, your metabolic rate drops, making it easier to gain weight. If your doctor allows, try to maintain a daily 30-minute walk along with your prescribed supplements to help boost your metabolism and energy levels.
