Can throwing up cause weight loss?

I’m trying to lose some weight, and I've heard different things about how the body processes food. Can throwing up, either occasionally or regularly, actually lead to weight loss?

Temporarily, yes, you might see a drop on the scale due to water loss and dehydration. But it's not real fat loss, and it's highly unhealthy. Focus on getting your stomach fixed first rather than worrying about weight changes.

Vomiting just dehydrates you and drains your muscles, it is definitely not a way to lose weight. Once you feel better and your doctor clears you, focus on light walks and clean eating to get your strength and metabolism back on track.

I lost almost 3 kgs in a week because of severe stomach flu and vomiting, and now I'm scared. Has anyone else experienced such a rapid drop? I hope it's just water weight and nothing more serious.

Well, if you can't keep any food down, you will obviously lose some weight! But trust me, it's the worst way to diet and you'll gain it all back the moment you eat a proper meal. Better to focus on getting your digestion sorted out.

Losing weight this way is usually just fluid loss and can be quite dangerous for your electrolytes. Since I manage PCOS, I know how tempting any weight loss can seem, but please nourish your body and see a doctor if the vomiting doesn't stop.

Throwing up actually breaks down muscle tissue because your body goes into starvation mode, which is bad for your fitness goals. Focus on a balanced diet and regular workouts once you recover. Don't look at vomiting as a shortcut to weight loss.

I panicked so much when I lost weight during a bad stomach infection last year. But my doctor reassured me it was just dehydration and temporary lack of food. My weight went back to normal once I started eating regular meals again.

If you track your weight daily, you'll see a sharp drop after vomiting, which is mostly glycogen depletion and water loss. Your app might show a lower number, but you need to prioritize tracking your hydration levels and electrolyte intake right now.
