Can stress cause hair loss in women?

After a very difficult personal situation, I started noticing significant hair loss. My mother told me it's probably because of the stress. Can stress really cause hair loss specifically in women?

Honestly yes, during my college submissions my hair falls out like crazy, it is literally so stressful. I get so scared seeing my hairbrush after a shower. I just try to oil it and get some sleep, but it is really annoying.

Please do not just blame stress and ignore it. I ignored my severe hair thinning thinking it was just work pressure, but it turned out to be a severe iron deficiency and hormonal imbalance. Get your blood tests done immediately to find the real cause.

I went through this exact phase during my job change last year. Stress pushes our hair into a resting phase, causing massive shedding a few months later. Try to focus on a protein-rich diet and maybe practice some deep breathing to calm down.

Yes, stress is a major culprit behind sudden hair shedding in women. While you work on reducing stress, make sure you are not using harsh chemical treatments or tight hairstyles. If the hair loss continues for more than three months, please see a dermatologist.

I panicked so much when my hair started falling out in clumps after a stressful event. But my dermatologist reassured me that this is a temporary condition called telogen effluvium and it completely reverses on its own. Just give it some time and stay calm.

Yes, stress definitely causes heavy hair loss in women. It is a very common trigger, so please take care of your mental health.

My trichologist explained that high stress raises cortisol levels, which impairs the hair growth cycle and causes shedding. She recommended checking my vitamin D3 and B12 levels, as deficiencies make it worse. Please consult a doctor to get the right supplements.

In women, stress can trigger thyroid fluctuations which lead to heavy hair fall. I highly recommend getting a thyroid panel and HbA1c test done. Please consult your doctor for a proper diagnosis rather than trying random hair oils.
