Can pregnancy cause weight loss?

I'm in my first trimester and surprisingly, I've lost a couple of kilos instead of gaining. My appetite has been a bit off with the morning sickness. Can pregnancy actually cause weight loss, especially in the beginning?

Your body is channelizing all its energy to nurture a new life, and sometimes this shift can cause initial weight loss. Keep a positive mind and eat simple, pure meals when you can. Always trust your doctor to guide your health journey.

If nausea is causing weight loss, try eating small, frequent portions of bland foods like dry toast or roasted makhana instead of heavy meals. Don't force yourself to eat large quantities, but do discuss this weight trend with your nutritionist and doctor.

Managing weight with PCOS is already complicated, and pregnancy shifts things further. If you are losing weight, it could be due to morning sickness or dietary changes, but please don't assume anything. Talk to your gynecologist to monitor your baby's growth.

I actually lost 3 kgs in my first trimester because I couldn't keep any food down. I panicked completely thinking the baby was starving, but my doctor reassured me that the baby gets what it needs. I gained it all back in the second trimester, so don't worry!

I was reading some articles about this recently. Apparently, severe morning sickness or 'hyperemesis gravidarum' in the first trimester is a major reason why some women actually lose weight early on. It's fascinating how different every pregnancy is!

While slight weight loss can happen early on due to nausea, it shouldn't continue into the later trimesters. If your doctor allows, keep up with very light, daily 15-minute walks to stimulate your appetite and maintain muscle tone.

Yes, losing a little weight in the first trimester due to nausea is quite common. However, if you are losing weight rapidly, can't keep fluids down, or feel dizzy, you must see your doctor immediately to prevent dehydration and get safe anti-nausea meds.

I had severe nausea and lost weight in my first trimester. My tip is to focus on staying hydrated with electrolyte water, coconut water, or ginger tea. Eat tiny dry snacks before even getting out of bed, and always keep your doctor updated on your weight.
