Can menopause cause weight loss?

Everyone says menopause causes weight gain, but my neighbour, who is also going through it, has actually lost some weight. I'm wondering if menopause can sometimes lead to weight loss instead of gain.

I completely panicked when I lost 4 kilos in a month during my menopause onset. I literally thought the worst and couldn't sleep. But after getting my thyroid and routine blood tests done, my gynaecologist assured me that hormonal fluctuations can sometimes suppress appetite. It totally stabilized after a while, so take a deep breath!

It was so hard for me because everyone kept saying people only gain weight in menopause, so when I started losing it, I felt so isolated and scared. I kept crying thinking something was seriously wrong with me. Please know that your struggles are valid and you are not alone in going through this weird hormonal phase.

I know how exhausting it is when you suddenly start losing weight and strength. I tried having daily ashwagandha powder in warm milk and eating soaked raisins in the morning to improve my digestion. It really helped build my energy back up. Do give your body some gentle love and time.

My wife faced this too. Instead of stressing, we just started tracking her daily food. She was skipping meals because of constant acidity. We made a simple routine of small, frequent meals with curd, dal-rice, and bananas. Her appetite came back slowly and her weight became stable.

Beta, the body goes through many changes when the monthly cycles stop. Sometimes digestion becomes weak, leading to weight loss. Try having a glass of warm milk with some crushed almonds and a pinch of turmeric at night. It is very grounding and keeps your strength up during these years.

Having dealt with hormonal issues like PCOS, I know how wild weight fluctuations can be. While weight gain is the norm, weight loss can happen if estrogen drops rapidly. However, please don't just assume it is menopause; it's always safer to get your blood sugar and thyroid checked to be absolutely sure.

Look, menopause can do anything to the body because hormones are totally out of balance. But unexpected weight loss isn't something to ignore. Don't sit and guess at home. Go to a good doctor, get a complete blood profile done, and clear your mind once and for all.

Our bodies are just vessels going through natural seasons. Do not worry too much about the sudden changes on the scale. Just keep your mind peaceful with daily meditation, eat fresh home-cooked meals, and let nature do its work. Take good care of your health.

I cannot say if this is medically common, but during my own menopause transition, I actually lost about five kilograms. I had lost my appetite completely due to constant hot flashes and stress. Once my body adjusted to the changes, my normal weight returned gradually.

Most articles only talk about weight gain during menopause, but I was reading a medical study that said severe anxiety or sleep deprivation from hot flashes can actually cause weight loss in some women. It's crazy how differently everyone's body reacts to the same biological phase.
