Can keto diet cause kidney stones?

My cousin is on a keto diet for a few months now and he recently developed kidney stones. I was also thinking of trying keto, but this incident is making me worried. Can this diet cause kidney stones?

Yes, keto diet is very high in animal proteins which can make your urine acidic and lead to uric acid kidney stones. If you are starting keto and feel any sharp pain in your back or sides, please get an ultrasound scan immediately. Always prioritize your safety over weight loss goals.

My cousin actually got severe kidney stones after being on a strict keto diet for four months. She wasn't drinking enough water and was eating way too much meat. If you are doing keto, please make sure you drink lots of water and eat enough low-carb veggies to keep your system clean.

Yaar, don't stress too much, but kidney stones are a real risk on keto if you don't hydrate properly. High protein makes your kidneys work overtime. Just keep a big bottle of water with you all day, add some lemon juice, and you should be fine!

Honestly, the amount of paneer and cheese people eat on keto is crazy. High fat and protein without enough water is a direct ticket to kidney stone pain, and trust me, you don't want that on top of being sleep-deprived. Drink your water like your life depends on it!

Keto basically turns your body into a meat-processing factory, and sometimes that factory produces little stone souvenirs! It is quite common if you skip hydration. Just drink water like a camel and you will flush out those tiny stones easily.

I got hit by a 5mm kidney stone last year while doing keto. The doctor told me the high protein intake increases calcium and uric acid in urine, forming stones. If you are on keto, take potassium citrate or at least drink lemon water daily to prevent this.
