Can insomnia cause weight loss?

I've been struggling with severe insomnia for months now, barely getting a few hours of sleep. Alongside this, I've also noticed I've lost a significant amount of weight without trying. Can insomnia really cause weight loss?

I went through a terrible phase of insomnia during my exams last year, and I actually lost about 4 kgs because my anxiety was sky-high and I completely lost my appetite. While sleep deprivation usually causes weight gain for some, the stress of not sleeping can definitely make others drop weight. Please take care of yourself!

My college-going son had severe sleep issues during his final semester and started looking so thin and pale. Insomnia ruins your digestion and appetite, leading to unhealthy weight loss. I made sure he had warm milk at night and spoke to a doctor to help him get back on track.

While sleep loss is commonly associated with weight gain due to increased ghrelin levels, severe insomnia accompanied by high stress can trigger a hyper-metabolic state or severe loss of appetite, leading to weight loss. It is highly advisable to consult a physician to evaluate any underlying physiological causes.

Well, they say beauty sleep is important, but nobody warned me that no sleep would turn me into a skeleton! My brain is too tired to signal hunger, so I just forget to eat. If you find the secret to sleeping like a baby and keeping your weight stable, please let me know!

I used to panic so much when my scale kept dropping during my sleepless phases, thinking I had some terrible disease. But my doctor reassured me that my body was just under high stress. Once I fixed my sleep routine, my weight stabilized. Don't worry, it's just a temporary phase.

It is so incredibly exhausting when you can't sleep, and seeing yourself lose weight and look weak in the mirror only adds to the panic. I've been there, crying at 3 AM because my body felt like it was wasting away. Your feelings are completely valid, but please seek professional help to break this painful cycle.

If you are suffering from insomnia and losing weight, please get your thyroid levels checked. Hyperthyroidism can cause both sleeplessness and sudden weight loss. Regular blood tests and doctor follow-ups are crucial because these symptoms often point to hormonal imbalances.

Yes, chronic insomnia can cause weight loss due to elevated cortisol levels which mess up your digestion. What worked for me was setting a strict digital detox after 9 PM, drinking chamomile tea, and avoiding heavy dinners. If it persists for more than a month, don't hesitate to see a sleep specialist.

Bro, honestly, during assignment weeks I barely sleep and end up skipping half my meals because I am just too tired to eat. My weight drops like crazy in just a few days. It's super unhealthy but yeah, sleep deprivation completely kills my appetite.

A restless mind naturally drains the body's energy, which can sometimes manifest as physical weight loss. Try to practice gentle deep breathing before sleeping and keep your thoughts positive. Taking care of your mental peace will slowly help restore your body's natural balance.
